One major factor behind the success of 2026 hits such as Obsession has been their ability to connect with younger moviegoers. That audience was especially important during this late-September frame. People aged 30 and under represented 69% of Primetime’s opening-weekend crowd, echoing the youth-driven appeal of recent successes including Backrooms and Sinners. At a time when Hollywood continues to revisit 1970s and 1980s nostalgia, Primetime found a different lane by exploring 2000s pop culture. The added intrigue of Robert Pattinson portraying Chris Hansen made the concept even more enticing.
Endgame Encore also connected strongly with younger audiences, with moviegoers between 18 and 34 accounting for 66% of its powerful opening. That connection helped the film achieve the third-largest domestic debut ever for a theatrical re-release. Its three post-credit scenes linked to Avengers: Doomsday likely provided another incentive for Marvel fans to return to theaters. Combined with the performances of Resident Evil and Heart of the Beast, those results helped make the weekend the second-biggest late-September frame in North American box office history.
