This journey offers more than John bargained for, introducing fans to Hal’s sparsely occupied mansion, bestowed upon him as a gift, along with a peculiar, carnivorous alien plant eerily reminiscent of “Little Shop of Horrors,” kept as a pet by the seasoned Lantern. As if encountering these oddities wasn’t enough, John’s adventure takes a wild turn when he gets embroiled in an alien abduction by a rogue faction.
Amidst the episode’s whirlwind of events, a subtle yet remarkably peculiar moment captures the audience’s attention. Tucked into all this action is a delightful nod to one of DC’s most unusual superheroes: Mogo, the far-out Green Lantern who is inarguably the most unconventional member of the group. This charming Easter egg appears when Hal Jordan needs to unlock a pocket dimension lockbox that contains his lantern, and his enigmatic password is revealed as “Mogo doesn’t socialize.” Fans of the franchise recognize this as a direct callback to the Green Lantern Corps member who’s also an enormous sentient planet, thereby confirming Mogo’s existence within the DC Universe.

Though Mogo may come in various forms across different stories, his fundamental attributes remain consistent. As an immense, conscious planet allied with the Green Lantern Corps, Mogo is renowned for his solitary nature, echoing Hal’s password. He possesses dominion over his vegetation, climate, weather, and all planetary conditions, communicating through holographic projections. Additionally, Mogo signifies his allegiance by arranging his greenery into a colossal Green Lantern emblem around his equator.
Mogo’s reputation as a mobile, sentient powerhouse grants him significant influence in the Green Lantern narratives. While his obvious strength is notable, Mogo’s telepathic prowess plays an equally vital role. As the arbiter of the Corps’ power ring distribution, he ensures that the power rings reach deserving hosts, cementing his position as a central figure in the Green Lantern saga.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already introduced its take on the “sentient planet” trope by introducing Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father Ego (Kurt Russell) in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” It remains to be seen if James Gunn will return to that particular narrative, or if the “Lanterns” name-drop is the closest we’ll get to a DCU Mogo in the foreseeable future. Still, Hal’s password stealthily confirms that Mogo is part of the DCU Green Lantern Corps’ story in some shape or form.
