A fresh start awaits Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland, just in time for the release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on July 30. Wondering what you need to catch up on before diving into his next chapter? Watch our video above for all the essential details.

The last time we caught up with Peter, the heart-wrenching finale of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” saw him making the ultimate sacrifice. In a brave bid to protect the multiverse, Peter had Doctor Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, cast a spell that erased him from the memories of everyone he loved. His girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, and his best friend Ned, portrayed by Jacob Batalon, are now oblivious to his existence. As he comes to terms with the death of his beloved Aunt May, portrayed by Marisa Tomei, Peter embraces responsibility, pouring himself into his alter ego and distancing himself from personal connections.

Peter’s dealing with a whole lot in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” promises to change everything for Peter. According to the story synopsis, four years have flown by since “No Way Home.” Peter has been secretly fighting crime, collaborating with other heroes like Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher and played by Jon Bernthal, while staying on the fringes of his old social circle. He’s now pursuing higher education at Empire University, observing from a distance as Ned and MJ lead their lives without him.

However, an unforeseen transformation in Peter’s abilities flips his world upside down. He seeks out his professor, Bruce Banner—played by Mark Ruffalo—after a university lecture to understand the curious physical changes affecting him. Peter’s body has begun to evolve, manifesting organic web shooters and the peculiar ability to change eye color, among other odd developments. But Peter isn’t the only one experiencing these changes; the trailer reveals Bruce Banner unleashing his full “Savage Hulk” persona.

There are other hints that something dark is afoot. New Yorkers are acting under a sort of mind-control, with an uncertain origin point. Peter’s also dealing with a ton of new enemies as well as past foes. Want to know more about Peter Parker’s backstory? Click our video above.
