In an exciting unveiling, the trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has sparked intrigue with its early reveal of a familiar villain. Keen observers have noted the appearance of a known adversary in the initial moments of the footage, but only the most attentive viewers have caught the details. Curious about which notorious character makes this early cameo? Our video at the top of the page has the answer.

As reported by dependable Marvel Cinematic Universe insider Cryptic4KQual, the character Boomerang makes an unmasked debut within the first minutes of the trailer. This antagonist is set to have a humorous rivalry with Peter Parker, portrayed by Tom Holland. Interestingly, Boomerang is also featured in a poster that suggests he might be the new beau of MJ, played by Zendaya—a narrative twist echoing certain Marvel Comics arcs. The role is expected to be played by Eman Esfandi, who may portray the character as Paul Rabin or possibly a blend of Rabin and Fred Meyers, the latter being the Australian who dons the Boomerang guise in the comics and is sometimes an ally of Peter Parker.

Introducing Boomerang in this context offers an intriguing storyline. In the comics, Paul Rabin became one of Marvel’s most divisive figures, especially after becoming Mary Jane Watson’s husband and the adoptive father to her children from another dimension. His demise at the hands of the villain Torment left few lamenting his departure. If Boomerang meets a similar fate in the film, it may not stir much fuss, especially with a plethora of other villains confirmed to appear in “Brand New Day.”

Peter Parker will face a slew of adversaries in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” The trailer, released in March 2026 and brimming with Easter eggs, features characters like Tarantula and operatives of The Hand, the deadly ninja group first seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Netflix’s “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders.”

Additional villains are either hinted at in the trailer or have been disclosed through leaks and set reports. The Scorpion, brought to life by Michael Mando, is heard delivering a line in the teaser, while Tombstone, portrayed by Marvin Jones III, hasn’t been shown in the trailer but has been confirmed as part of the film’s ensemble. Moreover, the character played by Sadie Sink remains unnamed, yet she may prove to be another formidable challenge for Peter Parker.

This would be quite the interesting narrative choice. Many a comic book fan came to hate Paul, who became one of Marvel’s most controversial characters. He was Mary Jane Watson’s husband and the father of her adopted children from another dimension in the post-“Spider-Man: One More Day” world. When Paul was eventually killed by supervillain Torment, there were few mourners. If this version of Boomerang doesn’t live long, don’t expect much ballyhoo either — after all, there are plenty of other confirmed villains who will be popping up in “Brand New Day.”

Spider Man: Brand New Day has a stacked roster of villains

Peter Parker is set to clash with a whole lot of villains in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Among the characters seen in the Easter egg-laden trailer released in March 2026 are Tarantula and members of The Hand, the deadly ninja organization first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the Netflix series “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders.”

Other threats are also in the trailer or have been confirmed by leaks or set visits. Scorpion (Michael Mando) has a line of dialogue in the teaser, while Tombstone  — aka Marvin Jones III — doesn’t appear in the trailer but has been independently confirmed as being in the film. And then there’s Sadie Sink’s character, who has not been given a name yet, but might be a foe for Peter in the end.

The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is also slated to appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” as is the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), and either one of them might turn to the dark side for a bit during the film. Could the movie be hiding even more bad guys? Will Boomerang be a friend or a foe? And will any other evildoers show up? Find out when “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits theaters on July 31.
