Viewers were first introduced to the joy of the “Transformers” period piece in the Hailee Steinfeld-fronted “Bumblee.” Taking place in 1987, the film utilizes amusing hallmarks of the time as young Charlie unearths everyone’s favorite yellow Volkswagen beetle, and a friendship ensues. “Rise of the Beast” seems to be taking a cue from the film, or at the very least, getting the same enjoyment from period-accurate music.

As the new character Noah discovers the powers of Mirage (Pete Davidson), Notorious B.I.G.’s famous single “Juicy” thrums in the background. The song is a classic tale of a young creative rising to success. Proving everyone around him wrong, Biggie became one of the most famous rappers of the time. The song is apt not just because it cements viewers in the time but could be telling for the introduction of a new character in need of redemption.
