Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - Why We Didn't Get Tobey Maguire In The Movie

While the team behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” might have backed out of casting Tobey Maguire as Peter B. Parker, Maguire would play a similar version of the character three years later in the 2021 blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

In that film, Maguire reprises his role as Peter Parker from the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” trilogy, acting as a mentor to a younger, alternate version of himself. Unlike Peter B. Parker, this version of Spider-Man is still optimistic about his crime-fighting career and is more than happy to impart some life lessons on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man.

While fans haven’t heard anything so far that indicates Maguire would be appearing in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the directors’ comments from 2018 make it sound like they regret not trying him out in the role of Peter B. Parker. Plus, their idea of bringing him back into the fold seems more realistic now knowing the first film was so successful.

As such there’s always a chance that the team behind “Across the Spider-Verse” could try to bring Maguire into the fold once again, especially considering the number of Spider-Men spotted in the “Across the Spider-Verse” trailer. In any case, it’s interesting to imagine how different “Into the Spider-Verse” might have been if Maguire had signed on as Peter B. Parker.
