Unraveling Nikki’s Fate: Discover Her Journey After ‘Obsession’ Ends

This summer, the unexpected box office triumph “Obsession” captivated audiences, leaving many fans eager to know what becomes of Nikki, the film’s possible lone survivor headed for incarceration. Those curious about Nikki’s fate need not wonder any longer, as our video provides all the answers. To discover what unfolds for Nikki at the story’s conclusion, click the link above.

In “Obsession,” the plot takes a dark turn when Baron “Bear” Bailey, portrayed by Michael Johnston, makes a wish on a quirky trinket known as the One Wish Willow. His wish? That Nikki, his unreciprocated love interest, would adore him more than anyone else. This wish spirals out of control, transforming Nikki into an obsessive figure. In desperation, Bear resorts to buying another One Wish Willow, only to find that the spell can only be broken by someone else’s wish or his own demise. After Nikki murders their two closest friends in a fit of jealousy, Bear attempts to end the nightmare by taking his own life with pills, a decision he soon regrets. Despite his change of heart, Bear succumbs, and Nikki, now using the One Wish Willow, ensures he loves her unconditionally even in death.

Bear’s demise ultimately snaps Nikki back to reality, and she’s left to confront the horror of her actions, surrounded by the bodies of her friends. According to director Curry Barker, who spoke with Cinemablend, Nikki’s future isn’t bright: “She probably goes to jail. She’s probably going to prison for a very long time.”

While “Obsession” has found its place among popular thrillers, those hoping for a direct sequel centered on Nikki might be disappointed. Barker has no plans for a straightforward follow-up film. Instead, he envisions expanding the “Obsession” universe into an anthology TV series. “What really is exciting to me [would be doing] an anthology, like a one-hour episode,” he revealed in an interview with GamesRadar. Each installment would explore a new wish gone awry. Barker expressed interest in directing the pilot but is open to other directors contributing to his imaginative world.

Amusingly, Barker acknowledged a significant plot hole in the film: the existence of the One Wish Willow itself. “If the One Wish Willow actually works, which it does in this lore, and people are just making wishes left and right, there would be some crazy … like, dragons would exist, right?” he humorously commented to GamesRadar. While Barker owns up to this narrative gap, it remains to be seen how future directors might creatively address it. For more on Nikki’s story, check out our video linked above.

Bear’s death breaks the spell on Nikki, and as her real personality tragically re-emerges, all she can do is scream in horror at what she’s wreaked. With three bodies strewn around her, director Curry Barker told Cinemablend that things aren’t going to get much better for her at that point: “She probably goes to jail. She’s probably going to prison for a very long time.”

An Obsession sequel might happen, but it probably won’t follow Nikki

There are certainly other movies to watch if you like “Obsession,” but if you’re hoping to learn what happens to Nikki via an “Obsession” follow-up, don’t hold your breath: Curry Barker has no interest in a direct spin-off. Instead, he’d like to possibly turn the “Obsession” brand into an anthology TV series. “What really is exciting to me [would be doing] an anthology, like a one-hour episode,” he told GamesRadar. “Each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails.” While Barker said that he’d love to direct the pilot, he’d be very open to allowing other directors to play in his universe.

Barker did laughingly admit that the existence of One Wish Willow is a huge plot hole in and of itself. “If the One Wish Willow actually works, which it does in this lore, and people are just making wishes left and right, there would be some crazy … like, dragons would exist, right?” he added to GamesRadar. While Barker acknowledges the gaffe, perhaps the next director — or directors — will figure out a way to make it work. Want to learn more about Nikki’s fate? Click our video above.
