“Supergirl” might not have achieved commercial success at the box office, but one area where it certainly excelled was in its casting choices, which shone across the board. Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl was a standout, while Jason Momoa’s depiction of Lobo was picture-perfect. The film’s commitment to dynamic casting reached beyond the main leads, showcasing an ensemble filled with actors that captivated audiences with their roles. Emily Beecham, who snagged the Cannes Film Festival best actress award in 2019 for “Little Joe,” has built an impressive resume since 2006. Horror enthusiasts might remember her as Karen in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s chilling “28 Weeks Later.” Fans of the Coen brothers would recognize her as Dierdre in the film industry satire “Hail, Caesar!” from 2016. In 2021, Beecham appeared as Catherine in “Cruella,” a Disney villain origin story directed by “Supergirl” helmer Craig Gillespie. She also starred as Maura Franklin in “1899,” the ambitious follow-up to “Dark” by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, a series that, unfortunately, left audiences hanging after a single season.
In an interview with Digital Spy UK, Beecham shared her thoughts about “Supergirl,” and it was clear that she appreciated her time on the project. “I think it will genuinely be really good,” Beecham said. “I think Craig Gillespie is always a brilliant director. He’s really spontaneous and fun and funny. He’s a little bit unexpected.” Beecham also had plenty of good things to say about Milly Alcock. “I love Milly. She’s so great,” she said. “She’s a spontaneous actress as well. Very instinctual.”
