The death toll in a terror attack against New Year’s revelers in New Orleans, Louisiana is up to 15, new reports indicate.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, of Houston, Texas, drove a rented Ford F-150 into a crowded Bourbon Street, swerving around police vehicles and taking advantage of barricades that were not yet erected. His actions injured dozens and killed 15.

“We had patrol cars out there as a hard target,” New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said during an afternoon news conference. “This particular terrorist drove around onto the sidewalk and got around the hard target.”

On top of the vehicular attack, bombs were discovered in the French Quarter, and Jabbar’s truck had an ISIS flag attached to the trailer hitch.

As previously reported, the FBI is investigating the event as an act of terrorism and has said they do not believe Jabbar worked alone. According to a Louisiana State Police bulletin that was shared with law enforcement communities, surveillance video showed three men and a woman apparently setting up an explosive device in the area. That aspect of the investigation is still underway.

CONTINUING COVERAGE:

More details about Jabbar are also emerging, some of which are disturbing.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the 42-year-old man who police suspect drove a pickup truck into a crowd of revelers on Bourbon Street, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more, made the chilling recordings while driving from his home in Texas to Louisiana, authorities believe.

This is a developing story.
