Tina Turner, 83, died at her home near Zürich in Switzerland on Wednesday following a long illness, but two years prior to her passing, she and her husband shelled out a whopping $76million for a waterfront estate overlooking Lake Zürich.

The estate, comprised of 10 buildings, was bought by Turner and her German-born husband Erwin Bach as a weekend retreat.

The 260,00-square foot property came complete with water features including a private pond, stream, swimming pool and boat deck.

While many details of the compound remain shrouded in secret, pictures help show the massive scale of the estate.

Turner and Bach had to wait to buy the property until they received official Swiss citizenship due to a Swiss law that states nonresidents are unable to purchase property in the country.

Swiss news outlets reported when Turner bought the home, that tennis superstar Roger Federer had also considered buying the property before settling on a different home in the same community of Staefa Village — outside Zürich.

Turner abandoned the United States decades ago for a variety of reasons, not least of which was her star power across the pond.

‘I have left America because my success was in another country and my boyfriend was in another country,’ she told Larry King in 1997, pointing to the popularity of Private Dancer in the United Kingdom.

‘Basically, Europe has been very supportive of my music,’ she said.

Eventually, she and Bach opted to settle down in Switzerland and subsequently chose to scoop up the massive estate in the village of Staefa.

Prior to the official purchase nearly two years ago, the couple rented a home, known as Chateau Algonquin, in the nearby Kuesnacht for many years.

Turner, known for such hits as Proud Mary and What’s Love Got To Do With It, married Bach, a German music executive, in 2013 after a long relationship. The pair lived together in Europe beginning in 1994.

The pair purchased the home following the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to have a retreat that did not require them to leave the country

The veteran singer made the purchase just before agreeing to sell the right to her entire music catalog to publishing giant BMG for $50million.

The deal saw BMG acquire hits such as The Best and Nutbush City Limits as well as the rights to Turner’s name and image.

Renowned for her distinctive voice, boundless energy and tempestuous relationship with former husband Ike Turner, the singer had five platinum albums including 1984’s Private Dancer.

Turner is survived in death by two of her four sons – two preceded her in death – and Bach, who is 67.

Born Anna-Mae Bullock in 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, to Zelma and Floyd Bullock, Turner overcame a turbulent childhood and abusive marriage to become a musical sensation and legendary performer.

In her early 20s, she found fame with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, a live act with her former husband.

By the early 80s, she was a musical powerhouse in her own right, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s most revered rock stars.

Electrifying performances with Mick Jagger and David Bowie set her success on fire and she was quickly celebrated with awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Throughout her career, Turner won eight Grammys from 25 nominations and three lifetime Grammy Awards. Her final stadium concert was in Sheffield, England, in 2009.
