Accused killer Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly faked having cancer

At 9.50am on February 19, 2024, Luke Davies called Triple-0 moments before Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly shot him and Jesse Baird dead.

The emergency call ended almost immediately, prompting Triple-0 operators to try twice to return Davies’ call.

One operator was heard saying she had caught a male voice saying “f*** off” before the line went dead.

The subsequent calls to Davies’ phone were diverted to voicemail.

His recorded message said: “Hi, you’ve reached Luke. Please leave a message and I’ll get back to you.”

CCTV footage showed Lamarre-Condon taking his rented Mazda to Decathlon soon after the alleged murders to purchase another surfboard bag.

After leaving Baird’s Paddington terrace on the morning of February 19, 2024, Lamarre-Condon was captured entering the sports store at Westfield Miranda.

He selected the same style of surfboard bag he had bought several days earlier and paid $85 in cash.

Lamarre-Condon is accused of placing Baird’s and Davies’ bodies inside two surfboard bags before leaving them overnight in the courtyard of Baird’s Paddington rental.

At 1.34pm, footage showed Lamarre-Condon withdrawing $250 from an ATM in Mascot.

The court heard he later visited Bunnings in Alexandria, where he bought a tool bag, bucket, mop, mop wringer, disposable gloves and other items. No CCTV footage of those purchases was available.

Baird’s housemate said she “poked” a surfboard bag and a blue tarp in the rear courtyard after noticing that both were leaking red liquid.

The housemate, identified in court by the pseudonym Sarah King, said she returned to the share house on the day of the alleged murders.

In the courtyard, pictured below, she found the bags and tarp, none of which she had seen before.

“I poked the tarp or the surfboard bag,” Ms King told the court.

She said the object did not feel unusual, adding: “It just sounded like a tarp.”

Ms King took photographs and planned to send them to another housemate, identified for legal reasons as Belinda Smith.

The court also heard that, one day before the alleged murders, Lamarre-Condon asked a police colleague about two high-profile killings involving Lilie James, pictured below, and Matthew Leveson.

Ben Higginson, a former police officer, told the court on Friday that he had worked alongside Lamarre-Condon at an event in Sydney’s Domain on February 18, 2024.

When Lamarre-Condon asked what work he had been doing, Mr Higginson said he had been involved in the investigation into Lilie James’ murder.

Ms James, 21, was bludgeoned to death by her ex-boyfriend Paul Thijssen, 24, at St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney CBD on October 25, 2023. Thijssen then killed himself.

Mr Higginson told the court that Lamarre-Condon was very interested in the case.

‘I gave him a fair bit of detail about how f***ed up it was, and then some of the things Thijssen had done,’ he said.

When the Crown prosecutor asked what sort of detail he provided, Mr Higginson said: ‘We believe Thijssen used Lily’s phone to text her father to come to the school after he killed her.’

‘[Lamarre-Condon] thought Thijssen was stupid for doing it on CCTV.

‘He asked if Thijssen hadn’t murdered Lily and then been seen on CCTV, would have gotten away with it.

‘I said we don’t only rely on CCTV, there’s a big effort with investigators and so on.’
