AN AIR Force officer has tragically died after being sucked into a fighter jet’s engine during a freak runway accident.

Sergeant Hu was carrying out a routine inspection when she was accidentally swallowed by the engine at Ching Chuan Kang Airbase, Taiwan.

She was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was later declared dead.

Local news outlets report that the accident occurred when Hu was setting up wheel chocks to keep an Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF) in place soon after it landed at the air base.

But aviation experts say that the chances of crew members getting sucked into plane engines are extremely low.

One expert with knowledge of the matter expressed disbelief, saying the engine should have stopped by the time wheel chocks were put on, Taipei Times reports.

It is also said that the opening of the engine on the IDF is relatively small and is not enough to fit a human.

An investigation is now underway and security cameras on the hanger are being checked.

Hu had reportedly served in the military for about 17 years.

Last year, an aviation mechanic tragically died after getting sucked into a Boeing passenger jet’s engine.

Local technician Abolfazl Amiri was busy doing his routine maintenance work when the horror incident occurred at Chabahar Konarak airport in southern Iran.

The engine on the right wing of the plane was said to have been turned on for a test check with the cover flaps open.

And a safety area was set up around the turbine as standard practice to avoid fatal accidents, reports say.

But when Amiri realised he had forgotten a tool near the engine, he went towards the turbine before getting sucked in.

The engine soon caught fire and emergency responders were called in, who then recovered Amiri’s remains from the engine.

Airline worker Courtney Edwards, 34, was also tragically killed after being pulled into a jet engine in December 2022.

The gruesome incident “shook the entire plane” at Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama, on New Year’s Eve.
