A TIKTOKER has revealed the reason squatters get to stay on your property without paying a dime.
After news of a group of squatters breaking into a man’s home, a Tiktoker revealed how they ended up being able to stay, even after the cops were called.
While some people’s first instinct is to call the police, Alexis Leere (@alexisleere) revealed in a recent video, that after the cops were called they explained that the squatters had rights and could not simply be removed from the home.
To get the people out of his home, he had to contact his district attorney’s office and file an eviction to remove the squatters.
Knowing how difficult this is, Leere provided three ways to stop squatters in their tracks.

1. CHECK ON YOUR PROPERTY
If you are someone who has an investment property, Leere reminds homeowners to check on their house every day.
Not only could people sneak into your home for days or weeks without knowing, but some could even steal your utilities.
“I went to a property the other week and had somebody running a water hose from my property to theirs, so we had to get that nipped in the bud,” she explained.
2. INVEST IN SECURITY CAMERAS
Leere also explained that it’s best to place security cameras around the home. While she does not mention a specific one to get, she recommends looking for cameras that have the software to help you see multiple areas at a time.
“They have systems where you could move them from one property to the next, and so as soon as something happens you’ll be able to know that something is going on at your property.”
3. SIGN A LEASE
Lastly, the Tiktoker recommends that if the home is under an LLC, to sign a lease to yourself.
“Whenever you go to the property, and someone is there other than you, you are the leaseholder. You show that to the police and get them on up out of there.”
