WHITE House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has lashed out at Amazon for their shocking move to show tariff prices.
The e-commerce giant is set to show how much President Donald Trump’s tariffs are adding to the price of their products.
Amazon is making the move because it doesn’t want to take the blame for skyrocketing prices caused by Trump’s trade war, Punchbowl News reported on Tuesday morning.
The shopping giant plans to show how much of an item’s cost comes from tariffs next to the product’s total price.
Leavitt was quick to bash the decision just hours after the decision was revealed.
At a press briefing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to celebrate the president’s first 100 days in office on Tuesday, she said Trump disapproves of the idea.
“This is a hostile and political action by Amazon,” Leavitt told reporters.
“It’s not a surprise because, as Reuters recently wrote, Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm,” she continued, referencing a 2021 report by Reuters that Amazon was marketing a collection of the Chinese president’s speeches.
“So this is another reason why Americans should buy American,” she said.
She then said the move showed anti-Trump sentiment because it wasn’t done when former President Joe Biden put tariffs in place.
“Why didn’t Amazon do this when Biden hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” she asked.
When questioned about Trump’s feud with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Leavitt declined to comment on their relationship, but emphasized that Amazon’s move was hostile.
It comes after Bezos and Trump have appeared to have a friendship throughout the years.
The billionaire even supported Trump at his inauguration in January, bringing his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.
