THE last voice messages of an American woman who went missing while on vacation in Spain earlier this month have been revealed.
Ana Maria Knezevic, 40, was last heard from while traveling through Spain on February 2, just two months after she had left Florida during a messy divorce.
New voice messages from Knezevic have been released, revealing how the realtor was known for being very detailed in her notes to friends.
The messages, obtained by NewsNation, were sent just days before Knezevic went missing.
“Hey, good morning. I woke up, went to the gym, got the apartment ready,” she reportedly said in one message, sent about a week and a half before her disappearance.
“I’m gonna buy some like cleaning stuff now. I fixed my hair, my nails and I’m just heading back. How are you? I miss you too. Bye.”
Another message, sent one day before she was last heard from, indicated that Knezevic had plans she was looking forward to in the coming days.
“I saw an apartment that I loved. Yes. So hopefully, it will be mine. I am now on my way to see another one,” she reportedly said in the message.
“Everything’s doing great. I’m feeling actually really good. I’m going on Monday to Barcelona with a friend of mine. It’s just a day trip. She’s very excited about it.”
WORRYING TEXTS
The messages come after friends of Knezevic said they received odd text messages from her just before she went missing, saying the messages didn’t sound like their friend.
“She wouldn’t do this…it is very unsafe and crazy behavior,” Knezevic’s best friend Sanna Rameau said.
“It just didn’t make sense.”
Rameau had said she received a message from Knezevic saying she met someone while in Madrid that had a summer house two hours away from the city.
“We are going there now and I will spend a few days there. Signal is spotty. I’ll call you when I get back,” the text read.
Brandee Smith, a long time friend of Knezevic, insisted to NewsNation that the last text messages sent from Knezevic did not match up with her character.
“It absolutely feels like a missing persons investigation because she would have messaged her friends, her girlfriends. This is what women do. Women message each other and tell them what’s going on,” Smith said.
Smith also called into question why Knezevic’s estranged Serbian husband, David, has not traveled to Spain since she went missing.
“I would say certainly think after all of this history that they spent together, that he would go looking for her,” Smith said.
‘NASTY’ DIVORCE
Knezevic and her husband had been married for 13 years.
She was born in Colombia and left the United States during the recent split.
The couple owns EOX Technology Solutions INc., a computer support business in South Florida, according to The Associated Press.
Knezevic’s brother Juan Henao, has called the divorce “nasty,” and believes David traveled to Serbia in January.
He had a brief conversation with his brother-in-law when Knezevic first disappeared, in which David told the brother he only knew that she had gone missing and nothing else.
While details surrounding the divorce have been limited, the Associated Press reported that there was a “substantial amount of money on the line to be split up between the two.”
GONE SILENT
Knezevic has not been heard from since her friends received the suspicious messages on February 2.
After she got the worrying texts, Rameau said she responded and asked her friend to share her location.
However, Knezevic never responded and her phone was ultimately shut off, according to Fox affiliate WSVN.
“When we tried to respond, the messages were not going through and the phone is off. She has not left on her own,” Rameau said.
Rameau has said she believes Knezevic has been taken against her will.
Police in Madrid and Fort Lauderdale are investigating her disappearance.
At the same time, Knezevic’s friends have looking into the case on their own and claim a worker at her apartment building informed them that someone had blacked out security cameras at her apartment.
The worker allegedly said that a man in a helmet had covered the cameras with black paint on February 2.
As Knezevic’s friends and family are searching for answers, Rameau is seeking the US Embassy to take action.
“I just want her back. I want the American authorities to help,” Rameau said.
“We have an American citizen that has disappeared abroad and no one in the America is doing anything about it. There is high suspicion of foul play regarding her disappearance.
“She has not just left. There is high suspicion that someone did something to her.”
