On Monday, during an episode of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin expressed concern over the varied reactions of Americans to the recent fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis. She commented that these differences highlight how we might be “losing our collective humanity.”
Whoopi Goldberg, another co-host, posed a thought-provoking question, “We all saw the same footage. It might seem like a silly question, but how is it possible for people to see the same incident and interpret it so differently?”
Griffin responded, “It feels like we’re losing touch with our shared humanity. I often reflect on past experiences within my family, where some have had encounters with law enforcement. Thankfully, they met officers who aimed to de-escalate situations and manage them calmly. This makes me wonder, in the recent incident, was there any intention to charge her, and if so, what would those charges have been? If she hadn’t been shot and subsequently crashed, what would have been the outcome? We researched the legal repercussions for evading or fleeing police, which are indeed serious. However, it’s crucial to emphasize that these offenses do not warrant a death sentence.”
Griffin further urged, “Let’s not forget, this was a human life. While more details might emerge, we must remember that a person lost their life because a situation escalated unnecessarily, resulting in the most extreme force being used instead of de-escalation.”
