Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee has thrown her support behind the United States’ recent decision to seize a Venezuelan oil tanker, asserting that President Donald Trump is fully justified in this action, which she claims is a straightforward enforcement of existing sanctions.
In a recent appearance on Breitbart News Daily, Blackburn addressed the host, Mike Slater, who inquired about the uproar caused by the left in response to the tanker’s seizure. Slater mentioned that the operation was spearheaded by none other than Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, a fellow Tennessean.
“Are you comfortable with this move?” Slater probed. “The left is describing it as a shocking escalation, but isn’t this just a matter of enforcing the sanctions we’ve had in place since 2015?”
Blackburn was unequivocal in her response. “Indeed, we are simply enforcing the sanctions,” she affirmed. “The president is well within his right to do so, and it’s crucial that these sanctions are upheld. Consider the situation in Venezuela. The previous lack of enforcement regarding sanctions on countries like China and Russia was detrimental, and President Trump is making it clear that these laws must be respected and enforced.”
She further criticized the left’s discontent, suggesting they have grown accustomed to the current administration under President Biden, which she implied has been less stringent about upholding the law.
“I will say, under Joe Biden’s term as president, they worked overtime trying to make illegal legal and circumvent U.S. law, and now you have Donald Trump who says, ‘No, the law is the law. We’re going to enforce it.’ And all of a sudden they’re very upset,” she pointed out.
“We should all be for enforcing the law. If they don’t like the law, they can try to change the law, but they cannot build the support for changing the law, so therefore they’re just trying to go around it,” she added.
