The Russian Consulate in Marseille was in lockdown following an explosion inside.

A local source told La Marseillaise newspaper: “The Russian Consul General confirms” that “the explosion took place inside the consulate and that firefighters entered.”

An initial reporter claimed that two unknown people reportedly threw Molotov cocktails into the garden of the building.

A stolen car was also found near the scene of the explosion.

The blast came on the third anniversary of Russia’s ground invasion of Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron is in Washington for an emergency meeting about the war with President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, the Russian foreign ministry has claimed that the explosion has “all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack” – without providing any evidence.
