The Wyoming Capitol in Cheyenne was evacuated on Tuesday following a report of a potential explosive device, as confirmed by local authorities.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol announced via a Facebook post on Tuesday that they were addressing a report regarding a suspected improvised explosive device at the Capitol. They noted that the building was swiftly and safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The agency further detailed that a “multi-agency, precautionary response” was underway involving the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, the Cheyenne Police Department, and other agencies, including federal ones.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon (R) shared on Facebook Tuesday evening that he was in close contact with law enforcement and closely monitoring the unfolding situation at the Capitol.

He emphasized, “This incident is an ongoing investigation. All Capitol employees have been informed of the situation. Ensuring their safety is my utmost priority, and the evacuation was conducted out of an abundance of caution to protect them.”

The incident at the Wyoming Capitol follows several notable incidents of political violence, including the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the shooting of a Minnesota lawmaker, and two assassination attempts against President Trump.
