President Trump, in an interview with Fox & Friends early Friday morning, shocked viewers by stating that the Charlie Kirk assassination suspect had been captured.

The man whom authorities have been tracking relentlessly after he fatally shot Kirk on the campus of Utah Valley University on Wednesday, then escaped by jumping from a roof and fleeing the scene, is reportedly in the clutches of law enforcement.

“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” Trump told the Fox News hosts cautiously. The President indicated he had heard the news just moments before joining the interview.

Trump went on to say he didn’t want to delve too deeply into the details, but indicated that he had heard someone close to the suspect was responsible for the breakthrough.

“Essentially, somebody who was very close to him turned him in,” Trump said. “And that happens when you have some of those good shots (images of the suspect). Somebody is going to say – whether it’s a parent or whatever, I’d rather not say.”

The president suggested an announcement from authorities providing more information would be forthcoming.

Trump expanded on the “parent” aspect further, indicating that someone “involved with law enforcement” and “a person of faith, a minister,” went to the father and went to a U.S. Marshal, who was involved in the crucial development.

Remembering Charlie Kirk: Family Videos Deliver an Emotional Gut Punch

Kirk, just 31 years of age with a wife and two adorable children, was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at a college campus event, part of his “American Comeback Tour,” on Wednesday.

The tragic event led to a massive manhunt for the shooter. A manhunt that appears to be over.

The president did not hold back his thoughts on what should happen to the assassin now that he has reportedly been caught and faces the might of the judicial system.

“Well, I hope he’s going to be found guilty – I would imagine – and I hope he gets the death penalty,” Trump declared. “What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person, and he didn’t deserve this.”

“He worked so hard and so well, everybody liked him.”

All of this will no doubt come as welcome information to a public that had been growing anxious that a sniper was on the loose, nearly 48 hours after Kirk’s death. The FBI had periodically released images and videos to the public in hopes of developing leads to bring his killer to justice.

It appears the day for justice has arrived.

The president did not identify the suspect. RedState will be sure to update our readers as more information becomes available.
