A BRITISH 12-year-old boy has tragically died after getting thrown from a car in a horror rollover crash on a motorway in Belgium.

The car with a British number plate had been travelling towards the French border at the time of the deadly accident, which occurred around 1am on Wednesday.

The BMWX5 landed on the roof on a verge between the main road and an exit ramp in the horror crash.

There were no witnesses to the tragedy and cops were only notified on the crash due to the vehicle’s automatic emergency alert system.

Authorities are investigating whether the horror crash was linked with poor weather conditions at what’s been dubbed an “unadjusted speed,” according to the local prosecutor’s office.

In a statement, cops said: “There were a total of six occupants in the car. One of them, a 12-year-old boy with British nationality, was thrown out of the vehicle and died of his injuries.”

Emergency services were able to resuscitate the boy, who was one of four in the car, at the scene.

He was then transferred to a nearby hospital where he tragically died.

Four members of the family suffered minor injuries.

A fifth suffered more serious injuries but was said to not be in a life-threatening condition.

All members of the family were transferred to hospital for treatment.

Local authorities are yet to name the family that were involved in the tragic crash.

The prosecutor’s office said: “The first findings show that the poor weather conditions and aquaplaning on the road, in combination with an unadjusted speed, may be the causes of the accident.

“No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

“The investigation is continuing.”

Shortly after the crash occurred, a tour bus with British number plates swerved and grazed a police car that was responding to the initial accident on the hard shoulder of the E40.

There were no injuries and the damage was limited, reports claim.
