AT LEAST 34 people have been left injured in Barcelona after two buses collided in a horror crash.
British tourists are believed to be among those wounded in the accident with four people currently in a critical condition.
The accident happened early this afternoon in the Avinguida Diagonal, one of the Catalan capital’s broadest and most important avenues, near to the famous Sagrada Familia.
It was not immediately clear if any tourists were on either of the two vehicles, said to belong to two firms named as Julia and Canals which both operate excursions.
One of the vehicles is said to have smashed into the back of the other, which then hit a tree.
Pictures from the scene showed the two buses surrounded by ambulances, police car and fire engines.
Around 20 ambulances are said to have been mobilised.
The avenue where the accident happened was closed to traffic as emergency responders dealt with the incident.
A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency response coordination centre said: “Some 34 people have needed medical attention following an accident between two buses on Avinguida Diagonal.
“Four of them are in a critical condition.”
He said three of the most seriously victims had already been transferred to different Barcelona hospitals, adding: “The fourth critically injured person is trapped and is being freed now.
“Nineteen ambulances were mobilised.”
