He was visiting Turkey with a group of friends to compete in the International Air Games Festival when he attempted the jump.

After opening his parachute, Sundhod lost control and smashed into the cliffside in Butterfly Valley.

Emergency services rushed to his aid after his friends alerted them to the horror scene.

It took workers around an hour to reach the spot where Sundhod had fallen, before they pronounced him dead.

National Medical Rescue (UMKE) and Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) teams lowered his body from the cliff with rope, before moving him to Kumburnu Beach via boat.

He was then taken to Fethiye State Hospital morgue, in south west Turkey.

Local media reports suggest Sundhod’s jump was a separate free fall from the festival activities.

Investigators are now looking into the legality of the stunt and whether the proper safety regulations for the dangerous sport were observed.

Just a few months ago another British base jumper died plunging from a mountain abroad.

Mark Andrews, 65, was killed after he fell more than 400 metres down a rockface in Trentino, Italy.

The 65-year-old, originally from Cornwall, was said to have been wearing a wingsuit when tragedy struck.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of a British man who has died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.

“We have not been approached for consular assistance, but our staff stand ready to support British Nationals overseas 24/7.”
