A key propagandist for the Iranian regime has been discreetly residing in the suburbs of Southern California, allegedly while receiving a significant monthly salary from Tehran.
Meysam Zamanabadi, who has served as a trusted advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has long-standing connections with the Iranian government dating back to Ghalibaf’s tenure as Tehran’s mayor and law enforcement chief. For almost a decade, Zamanabadi has made his home in Glendora, California.
Zamanabadi oversees Ghalibaf’s English-language X account, strategically crafting anti-American content filled with memes designed to appeal to and influence susceptible audiences in the U.S.
Given that some of these operations are conducted from within the United States by individuals fluent in English who utilize contemporary slang and imagery, it’s unsurprising that some Democratic politicians might be misled by overt Iranian propaganda on social media.
According to a report by Iranwire, Zamanabadi plays a crucial role as an advisor to Ghalibaf, who has previously held positions as Tehran’s Police Chief and Mayor. He reportedly continues to receive a substantial $11,000 monthly payment from Iranian sources.
Zamanabadi, according to an analysis by Iranwire, is a “pivotal advisor” for Ghalibaf, who served time as Police Chief and Mayor of Tehran, and continues to rake in a not-unhealthy $11,000 per month from the Iranians.
Financial audits conducted by the Tehran City Council in 2017 revealed that even after moving to America, he received a monthly sum of 40 million Tomans (equivalent to approximately $11,000 at the time). This was paid in foreign currency through an exchange office in Ferdowsi Square via an individual named Hesamuddin Sahami, the then technical director of Tamashagar magazine.
