Video shows the terrifying moment neighbours heroically a dragged mother from a house fire she had deliberately started.

Sabina Khanom, 27, was tackled by Gary Burroughs just moments before her home in Newport, Wales, was engulfed by flames.

Mr Burroughs stopped her just yards from the front door after Khanom dashed into the flat, which was filling with smoke, and shouted: ‘I have to get my baby’s clothes.’

The dramatic rescue was captured on CCTV and played to Cardiff Crown Court as Khanom was jailed for arson.

The court heard Khanom deliberately started the blaze herself by setting fire to balls of tissue on her sofa.

Two boys riding past on bikes saw the sofa on fire and reported it to their mother who then called 999.

Firefighters arrived moments after Khanom had been pulled clear of the building and an explosion caused the front windows to blow out.

She pleaded guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, drunk and disorderly behaviour and possession of a controlled drug of class B.

Khanom was also in breach of a suspended sentence for using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour and being in possession of a bladed article.

She was jailed for two years and six months.

Gareth Williams, defending, said Khanom suffered a personality disorder and PTSD and had used alcohol and drugs but had not intended to hurt anyone with the blaze.

Judge Michael Fitton KC told her: ‘This was a very serious offence, you were responsible for the fire in a residential area where children were playing in the street.

‘The risk to other people, not just the firefighters and residents, was a significant risk.

‘Coming from what you have been struggling with for some time, the worse thing you could do is use alcohol, take cannabis or other drugs as a form of self medication or treatment.

‘It’s a disaster to mix emotionally unstable personality disorder with drink and drugs.’
