Charlamagne Tha God has taken a critical stance towards Democratic leadership, expressing concern over their inability to rise to the occasion during pivotal moments. He specifically targeted House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, likening his rhetoric to a “Chuck E. Cheese Obama,” and suggested that Jeffries might warrant a primary challenge.
The nationwide “No Kings” rallies earlier this month showed that “the country is angry,” Charlamagne said while guest hosting Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” on Wednesday.
Speaking on “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne—whose real name is Lenard McKelvey—voiced the public’s demand for transformative change and urged Democrats to channel that fervor effectively. He prefaced a clip of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from New York, who used a pointer stick and dry erase board to label a Republican mega-bill as a “big, ugly betrayal,” with a call for more dynamic leadership.
Charlamagne implored, “No, no, no, no. We want you to match our energy,” before highlighting comments by Jeffries, who accused the GOP of being the party of “lawlessness and disorder.” The radio host challenged Jeffries’ approach, stating, “Come on. People are angry. So why is Hakeem Jeffries talking like he’s Chuck E. Cheese Obama?”
He further criticized Democratic leaders for their reluctance to support candidates who could potentially disrupt the capitalist framework. Charlamagne, at 47, pointed out, “But guess what? The current system isn’t working,” underscoring the need for a more responsive and bold Democratic strategy.
“Democratic leaders never support candidates who might disrupt the capitalist system. But guess what? The current system isn’t working,” the 47-year-old media personality said.
“Americans want it remodeled the way Trump is remodeling the East Wing,” he added.
“Dems act like they’ll get a cookie for being the most rational people in the room. No one cares. You’re trying to win voters, not get a signed headshot from [New York Times columnist] Ezra Klein.”
“Democrats don’t understand how ready people are to act,” he continued, citing the public’s response to Disney’s brief suspension of Jimmy Kimmel after the ABC late-night comedian’s comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“If you can turn this energy into collective action, you can get s— done,” Charlamagne said to applause.
“If the Democrats can’t lead, we the people will take action in our own way — whether it’s protests, corporate boycotts, sit ins, even a national worker’s strike,” he said.
“Right now, America’s got all this ass, and I’m sorry to say, the Dems don’t know how to hit it right,” the “Get Honest or Die Lying” author said, specifically calling out Schumer and Jeffries.
“Maybe it’s time they get primaried and give someone else a chance to hit this ass,” he said.
