Conservative Commentator Ann Coulter Says Paris Riots Show Why Women Should Be Banned From Voting

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has triggered a backlash online after pointing to footage from riots in Paris as evidence that women should lose the right to vote.

The 64-year-old shared a video on X showing a French woman confronting masked rioters as they attempted to ransack a Paris supermarket.

“Stop!” the woman cries in French as the group forces its way through the store’s shattered glass entrance. “Why are you doing that?”

Clearly distressed, she continues: “That’s not the cause! That’s not the cause. What’s the point of doing that?”

The rioters do not respond to her appeals. Instead, they enter the supermarket and begin taking goods from its shelves.

Sharing a post about the episode, Coulter added her own commentary: “Example 1 million of why women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.”

The post she amplified alleged that the French woman belonged to a left-wing party, supported asylum seekers and generally backed the causes associated with the protesters who targeted the store.

The Daily Mail said it could not independently confirm the woman’s identity or verify the claims about her political views.

Coulter's remark was met with both heavy skepticism, some arguing the statement was a 'gross generalization,' and support from other X users

Coulter’s post drew widespread skepticism, with critics calling it a “gross generalization,” while some X users voiced their support

Coulter’s argument was met largely with disbelief online, as users criticized what they described as an overly broad conclusion drawn from a single incident.

“Stop, that’s not the solution. Come on, Ann. Let’s expose leftism and Islam, but not change women voting,” one user wrote.

“Aren’t you a woman???” another person asked.

A third user said the proposal “casts too large of a net,” adding that although they understood the argument’s premise, it was still “too wide of a generalization.” The user then suggested, controversially, that perhaps only college-educated women should be allowed to vote.

Another commenter responded: “So don’t vote and shut your trap about politics then, sweetie.”

“That’s a gross generalization. Let’s keep it about ideas, not people,” another user wrote.

Not everyone rejected Coulter’s position, however. Several users expressed support for her and repeated the criticism of women’s voting rights.

“The 19th Amendment is arguably the biggest blunder in American history,” one supporter claimed.

Another user voiced emphatic approval, writing: “I would 100% endorse this!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

One user even went as far as saying, ‘voting for Women is incompatible with survival.’

‘Women like you, Ann, are very capable of voting and thought leadership. Most women are not like you… sadly,’ wrote another.

Coulter has regularly floated the idea that the women’s right to vote should be reconsidered in America.

In 2007, the staunch Republican famously told the New York Observer that abolishing women’s suffrage was her ‘personal fantasy’ because it would prevent Democrats from winning the White House.

She doubled down on the remark at a Turning Point USA event in 2021, alleging that women ‘have no capacity to understand how money is earned’ and that female voters drive up government spending.

She also claimed that ‘women see the government as their husbands.’

She pushed the belief again three years ago in a Substack post arguing that several prominent female lawmakers do not understand the freedom of speech.

‘Once again, it is time to reconsider our rash experiment with women’s suffrage,’ Coulter wrote in her post.

Coulter’s latest push against the 19th Amendment comes after more than 2,000 shops and businesses were targeted during an anti-government insurrection across France last weekend.

Demonstrators took to the streets to protest President Emmanuel Macron’s administration, the high cost of living and poor conditions in schools.

Riots broke out, with looters smashing windows, setting cars on fire and storming public buildings.

US President Donald Trump has blamed the ‘turmoil and the hatred’ in France on illegal migrants.

French officials have instead blamed the violence on far-left groups and opportunistic looters.
