The 27-year-old, who was a serving officer for Greater Manchester Police, had enjoyed a “casual sexual relationship” with the drug dealer.

Kenny had gone to visit him at Forest Bank Prison in Salford when she was caught embracing Whelan, 31, in the waiting room.

She later broke up with the “committed criminal” and started an illicit fling with Rahim Mottley, who was under investigation by GMP.

After he was extradited from Spain to the UK, Kenny accessed and passed on confidential information to the crook.

She has now been jailed for three years and nine months after pleading guilty to four offences of misconduct in public office and one of conspiracy to commit misconduct.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Kenny would communicate with Whelan using mobiles she smuggled into jail.

After he was released in November 2022, the pair drove around in her BMW and were seen enjoying a Nando’s together.

When the couple split, Kenny embarked on a “physical but casual” relationship with Mottley, who was a former school friend.

At the time, he had moved to Spain but was extradited to the UK in October 2024 after being arrested by the National Crime Agency.

The 28-year-old tasked his cop lover to keep him up to date with police intelligence, which Kenny did by accessing private databases.

She told him about a planned police firearms raid and promised to find out who the “local grasses” were.

Brazen Kenny then attended a course about handling police informants.

Her crimes were exposed when officers analysed her phone and computer usage to find out what information she had passed on.

Officers also used CCTV to track her movements and discovered her illicit flings with the criminals.

They discovered she had been communicating with Whelan on illegal phones while he was in jail and had divulged private information.

This included a victim impact statement from a former partner who was accused of assaulting.

Kenny, who worked in GMP’s City of Manchester district, was sacked from her job this month before sentencing.

Whelan was jailed for two years and eight months after admitting three counts of possessing a specified item in prison, possession of a bladed article, racially aggravated assault, threatening behaviour and a bail offence.

Mottley has been sentenced to two years and two months.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Allen, head of GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate, said: “Kenny abused her position as a police officer and tried to compromise a police investigation by accessing and passing on confidential information.

“She also entered into an illegal relationship with a known criminal while he was behind bars and given this criminality the full weight of our specialist Anti-Corruption Unit was brought to bear against her.

“Kenny’s actions plainly amounted to serious corruption and it is right that she now contemplates her future from behind the bars of the prison estate where she is now incarcerated.

“Kenny’s jail term is fully deserved – she does not represent the thousands of professional, honest, hard-working police officers across Greater Manchester who continue to protect the public every day.”
