The salsas were made in Washington and use cilantro that’s now under a separate recall for possible foreign material.

The ingredient, supplied by SupHerb Farms in California, was used in production between December 19, 2024, and March 17, 2025.

SupHerb Farms said the affected cilantro might contain fragments of wood left behind from a previous crop grown in the same field.

More than 96,000 pounds of the cilantro, both chopped and whole, have been recalled, according to an FDA report.

LIST OF PRODUCTS RECALLED

The list includes Mild Salsa with Best Before dates between March 3 and May 23, Medium Salsa from February 27 to May 22, and Hot Salsa between March 3 and May 23.

Also recalled are Traditional Salsa with dates ranging from January 29 to April 23, Pineapple Mango Salsa from March 24 to May 23, and Verde Salsa with dates between January 27 and April 14.

Mens Room Roasted Red Salsa is affected as well, with dates between March 18 and May 22, along with the 32-ounce Costco-exclusive Medium Salsa with Best Before dates from February 27 to May 22.

All sizes of the products are being recalled, not just those sold at Costco.

The company said it has not received any complaints or reports of injuries linked to the affected salsa.

San Juan Salsa Co. believes its internal process eliminates the risk of contamination, but is pulling the items out of caution.

SupHerb Farms, which supplies cilantro to the brand, said the recall was voluntary and related only to one lot.

In a statement, SupHerb confirmed the issue stems from a cilantro crop that may have picked up wood particles from the soil.

San Juan Salsa Co. said it stopped using the cilantro batch after March 17, so newer products are not affected.

No current batches of its salsas are involved in the recall.

Which products have been recalled?

San Juan Salsa Co. listed the affected varieties as follows:

  • Mild Salsa: Best Before dates from March 3 to May 23, 2025
  • Medium Salsa: Feb. 27 to May 22, 2025
  • Hot Salsa: March 3 to May 23, 2025
  • Traditional Salsa: Jan. 29 to April 23, 2025
  • Pineapple Mango Salsa: March 24 to May 23, 2025
  • Verde Salsa: Jan. 27 to April 14, 2025
  • Mens Room Roasted Red Salsa: March 18 to May 22, 2025
  • Costco 32-ounce Medium Salsa: Feb. 27 to May 22, 2025

The same recalled cilantro was previously linked to a public health warning about several packaged soups.

Consumers are being told not to eat any of the recalled salsas and instead return them to the place of purchase or throw them away.

Costco issued a separate alert to warn members about the risk tied to its exclusive 32-ounce product.

Shoppers are advised to check the Best Before dates listed on their containers to see if their salsa is affected.

The recall extends beyond Costco, covering all sizes and varieties of the listed salsas, wherever they were sold.

The warning adds to a growing list of food safety concerns tied to contaminated ingredients used in multiple processed foods.

Officials say no further action is needed if you’ve purchased the salsa after March 17, 2025.
