Previously, I reported on Hillary Clinton’s participation in a panel discussion titled “The West-West Divide: What Remains of Common Values” at the Munich Security Conference.
During the panel, Clinton made a surprising statement, acknowledging that migration had gone “too far” and has been “disruptive and destabilizing.” This revelation seems to critique Democratic policies from recent years, whether she intended it or not. The intriguing aspect is her motivation for making this claim. Is she attempting to recast Democrats as more centrist amidst calls to abolish ICE? If so, this strategy may fall flat given the ongoing challenges with border security and immigration management.
Clinton also appeared to criticize the Trump administration’s efforts to address the issues left by Joe Biden’s tenure, an unusual move to make while abroad. Such comments can be perceived as inappropriate, as they air domestic grievances on an international stage.
This tendency to be transparent, to the point of fault, is a reason many believe she failed to secure the presidency. Her candidness, both domestically and internationally, was not received well by all. This is why many feel fortunate that Trump succeeded in the election.
