ANOTHER customer has been shocked to find anti-theft measures beefing up at their go-to store.

As retail concerns surrounding shoplifting, both violent and covert, increase and stores close down, many popular retailers are increasing their anti-theft measures.

@Khmaistylez209 on TikTok posted a video documenting her astonishment during a recent shopping trip to Target.

She had been browsing the clothing section when what she found in the intimates section caused her to pick up the phone and film.

“Okay, when did Target start locking up underwear?” she questioned in a voice-over.

The items were locked behind glass doors of upright standing cases.

Not only was all the underwear in the men’s section locked up; the socks and undershirts were similarly behind secure doors.

“Oh my god, they’re all locked up. What? That’s cray cray [crazy],” she continued.

Commenters shared that while not all Targets have implemented these measures, the TikToker’s Target is not alone in the increased security.

“I have 2 targets near me one of them has these & the other doesn’t,” wrote one user.

Other Target customers have been similarly shocked and appalled by the retailer’s spreading anti-theft decisions.

A group of customers have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their frustration on the matter.

“When I was in Target, and my first time back in Walmart was out there. How about NOTHING LOCKED UP? Just goes to show we in prison in Cali. In im getting released,” one person wrote.

One person photographed a set of colorful loofas, that Target now kept behind a glass.

“Glad these are locked up! I wouldn’t want Target to take the financial hit from people shoplifting these,” the user said sarcastically.

“Also, I’m happy to have to bother an employee to help me get one of these.”

Like @Khmaistylez209, another person was shocked when they realized that socks and underwear would also require employee assistance in order to buy.

“This is getting ridiculous.@Target locked up the men’s socks and underwear at their WeHo location. I can’t imagine any loss justifies this level of insanity,” another person chimed in.

PARTNERS IN CRIME-FIGHTING

This all comes as Target recently announced a partnership with Homeland Security.

In October of 2023, the beloved retailer issued a statement to customers listing the ways it will strive to combat criminality in its stores.

“At Target, we take the decision to close stores very seriously, and only do so after taking meaningful steps to invest in the guest experience and improve business performance,” the statement began.

“With that said, we have made the difficult decision to close nine Target stores across four states, effective Oct. 21.

“In this case, we cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance.

“We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.”

The company then lists its store policy changes, namely its decision to team up with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations.
