Dave Portnoy fumes Australia beach massacre was 'borderline inevitable' as he blasts rise of antisemitism

Dave Portnoy, visibly upset, has expressed that the horrific attack during a Jewish holiday gathering in Australia seemed almost unavoidable given the recent surge in antisemitism.

Portnoy, who established the media company Barstool Sports and is of Jewish descent, spoke with Fox News’ Peter Doocy about the tragic incident that unfolded at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday.

During the celebration of Hanukkah’s first night, two assailants armed with rifles opened fire, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, including children, and injuring approximately 40 others who were subsequently hospitalized.

“It’s a wave of sadness and tragedy,” Portnoy shared with Doocy. “I tweeted earlier about the overwhelming news—this incident, the situation at Brown University, and the assaults in Syria—it’s almost unbearable to watch the news these days.”

Portnoy continued, “I wish I could say I’m shocked or surprised, but with the current global climate, such attacks seem almost expected. The most heartbreaking aspect is that I’m not surprised by it.”

Portnoy, who was recently targeted by an antisemitic heckler while filming a pizza review in Mississippi, has frequently voiced his concern with the increase in antisemitism in recent months, which he believes is the result of Jewish people often being scapegoated.

When asked why he feels Sunday’s attack was no surprise, the media magnate added: ‘Well, because I see, you know, people are doing, being antisemitic just openly, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole heck of a lot of pushback. There seems to be a lot of excuses for it.

‘If [there are] antisemitic attacks, Jews deserved it. If Jews retaliate, it’s the Jews’ fault. No matter what it is, it’s the Jews’ fault. So that is the world we live in right now, and people want to make excuses or minimize it.

‘I’ve seen it increase over the last couple of years, and I’ve been a victim, if you want to call it. I have pretty thick skin. I’ve said it over and over, but no matter what the Jews do right now, it’s their fault.’

Last month Portnoy released footage of his shocking exchange with an antisemitic heckler who shouted ‘f*** the Jews’ while he filmed one of his famous ‘one bite’ pizza reviews in Mississippi.

A 20-year-old man named Patrick McClintock was arrested after allegedly throwing coins and yelling the vile slur at Portnoy, who was in Starkville for a college football game between Mississippi State and Georgia.

It was sadly not the first time in recent months that he was targeted with such disgraceful abuse over his faith.

When the 48-year-old was filming a pizza review outside of Terrazza in Toronto in June, a passer-by yelled out ‘f*** the Jews’ from a car.

‘There we go,’ Portnoy said, before being left furious that members of the crowd that had gathered around him on that day laughed at the incident.

‘What are you guys f***ing laughing about?’ Portnoy shouted. They quickly fell silent, with Portnoy adding: ‘Exactly.’

A month before the Canada incident, Portnoy was embroiled in another antisemitic scandal after a bottle service worker was filmed holding a sign that read ‘F*** the Jews’ at the Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia.

He immediately fired two waitresses and identified the people allegedly responsible for ordering the sign – one being Temple University student Mo Khan.

‘You see colleges where Jews are openly being intimidated on campus and administrators do nothing, and just allow it and it just increases and increases,’ Portnoy continued. ‘We’ve got a guy, one of the biggest scumbags of all time, this kid Mo Khan, who went into a bar I owned and had a sign, F the Jews, and people make like a hero out of them.

‘The kid who threw pennies at me and screamed at me antisemitic stuff, got $40/50k in a fundraiser. There’s online bloggers, people who are openly saying radically antisemitic stuff and being accepted as part of the mainstream.

‘So does this shock me? No, it’s inevitable.’
