In a candid interview with MSNBC on Sunday, actor Robert De Niro did not hold back in his critique of President Trump, accusing him of lacking compassion. “Trump doesn’t grasp the essence of humanity or connect with people,” De Niro expressed during his appearance on “The Weekend.” He went on to describe the president as someone devoid of empathy, labeling him as an “alien” intent on causing harm to the nation.
“There’s something profoundly psychological at play,” De Niro continued, suggesting that Trump harbors a desire to inflict pain, showing disregard for the country’s well-being.
Known for his vocal opposition to Trump, De Niro encouraged the public to take to the streets in demonstration against the president during the “No Kings Day” event on Saturday.
Reflecting on history, De Niro remarked on Instagram, “The first No Kings protest took place 250 years ago. Over two and a half centuries, democracy has prevailed—challenging, occasionally chaotic, but always crucial.”
“The original No Kings protest was 250 years ago,” De Niro said on Instagram. “We’ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then, often challenging, sometimes messy, always essential.”
“And we fought in two world wars to preserve it,” he added. “Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it away, King Donald I. F‑‑‑ that!”
White House communications director Steven Cheung told The Hill on Monday that De Niro is “washed up” and “hasn’t been relevant in 30 years.”
“Now, he just beclowns himself by spewing hate speech and inciting violence against others,” Cheung added.
Last year, De Niro backed former Vice President Harris’s bid for the presidency and called on his fans to support her during a tailgate for the Philadelphia Eagles football team.
