During Thursday’s episode of MS NOW’s “The Briefing,” Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) expressed that if Democrats secure control of either or both chambers of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, they might pursue legal action to halt the Department of Justice’s so-called anti-weaponization fund.
Blumenthal remarked, “I believe Trump may have pushed Senate Republicans too far. The proposal itself was utterly repugnant to them due to its unpopularity, and they were reluctant to vote on it. Privately, several Republican colleagues confided in me their relief when the parliamentarian ruled it couldn’t be included in the reconciliation process. Now, Trump is pressuring them to vote on something that could spell disaster for them in November. Some Republicans have already told me they had no intention of supporting it, even before Blanche addressed them.”
He continued, “There’s a genuine opportunity for conscience to be shown now. While we’ve reiterated this countless times, the moment has truly arrived. Besides potential legislation, there are other measures like the amendments we’re proposing, and the prospect of reclaiming some funds under a Democratic administration. If we gain control of either or both Houses, a lawsuit could be filed to stop it. These are viable paths for remedy and redress, regardless of Republican actions. However, there’s also a chance for a genuine, conscience-driven response.”
