FED-up residents have taken a filthy stand – launching a “poop protest” to shame the owner of a crumbling historic home.

The bizarre rebellion began after a once-grand property was left to rot, attracting squatters, rodents and piles of trash.

The 120-year-old Denver home sits in the city’s East 7th Avenue Historic District – just minutes from the famous Doud-Eisenhower House, which once served as the Summer White House for President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Locals say the property has been abandoned mid-renovation for six years, with boarded-up windows, overgrown weeds and a metal construction fence that does little to keep intruders out.

In a messy form of protest, neighbours walking their dogs have been throwing bags of faeces onto the front steps and yard, CBS reported.

“A poop protest, that’s it,” said long-time neighbor Mimi Garrison, who has lived next door for 50 years.

The stunt has been going on for at least a year, with inspectors documenting the foul scene since July 2024.

By May, officials noted “a lot” of dog poop bags being thrown over the fence by angry locals.

The property’s troubles began after owner Flavia Montecinos bought it in 2015 and initially rented it out.

She began major renovations in 2019 but stopped just months later, leaving the makeover unfinished.

The pandemic hit soon after, and the project never resumed, according to city officials.

The neglected state has sparked safety fears, with Garrison recalling homeless people breaking into the garage.

Residents worry that the decay could negatively impact nearby property values in one of Denver’s most prestigious districts.

The city officially added the home to its “neglected and derelict” list last year after years of complaints.

Denver’s Community Planning and Development Agency says there have been around 40 complaints since 2019 – including five so far this year.

“It’s disgraceful,” Garrison said, noting the neighborhood’s history of high-profile residents, including a Colorado senator and a former governor.

From Summer White House to Poop Protest

  • 1916 – Dwight D. Eisenhower marries Mamie Doud at her family home in Denver’s East 7th Avenue Historic District.
  • 1950s – The Doud-Eisenhower Home serves as the Summer White House, hosting political gatherings and family events.
  • 2015 – Just five minutes away, a 120-year-old home is purchased by Flavia Montecinos.
  • 2019 – Renovations start on the property but halt after a few months.
  • 2020 – Pandemic leaves the project frozen; property begins to decay.
  • July 2024 – Neighbors start “poop protest” by tossing dog feces bags onto the steps.
  • May 2025 – City records heavy dumping of poop bags; property remains on “neglected and derelict” list.

The district is lined with elegant homes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, once occupied by wealthy professionals, soldiers and laborers.

The Doud-Eisenhower Home, where Ike married Mamie Doud in 1916, is just a five-minute drive away.

Montecinos told CBS the property has been targeted by “illegal dumping of dog feces, food waste and other garbage.”

She said she works with the city to clear the waste regularly and that a construction permit for the home remains “in progress.”

Garrison isn’t convinced, saying neighbors want to see real improvements after years of frustration.

“To have it go on such a long time is what’s the worst part,” she said.
