This rule came in 2006 after the “Shoe Bomber” Richard Reid, who tried to hide and then detonate explosives hidden in his shoes on a flight from Paris to Miami in December 2001.

This was a great decision that should have come long ago to a largely pointless rule.Β
I’m not sure how much support such a bill would have, with Democrats often standing in the way of sense.Β
The Trump team and the GOP have a lot on their plates, but if they could take this a little further, they could bring long-needed change. They’ve shown a willingness with DOGE to try to rectify nonsense. If they could do that with the TSA, they might walk away with the elections in 2026 and have a much better system.
