In a bit of a role reversal, former FBI Director James Comey now finds himself on the hot seat as he’s being interviewed by the Secret Service following a troubling Instagram post seeming to call for the assassination of President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Comey exercised what can only be described as extraordinarily poor judgment and shared a photo to his Instagram account with the numbers “86 47” — the implicit message being that Trump, the 47th president, needs to be “86’d” or gotten rid of in some manner. Comey later took the post down and feigned ignorance at it being interpreted as calling for violence — you know, being the naif that one would expect a former director of the nation’s top law enforcement agency and former federal prosecutor to be, of course.
Strangely enough, that hasn’t spared him the scrutiny of his now former agency or the Secret Service — they tend to take presidential assassination references somewhat seriously.
