A LIGHT-HEARTED UFO sketch has become the talk of the town in one US city.

Aliens “landed” on Sunday in Del Rio, Texas, about 150 miles west of San Antonio.

“We don’t know if this thing is radioactive or not,” Chief Frank Ramirez said during a fake newscast uploaded to the police department’s Facebook page on Thursday.

“This unidentified object, we don’t know what it is, but it crashed over here,” he added.

“We’ve been working on this most of the morning. It happened last night.”

The chief added that scientists and members of the military had descended on Del Rio.

But the newscast was interrupted

“We might be getting (the alien) out,” a firefighter told Ramirez.

“This is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

But first responders quickly revealed there was no cause for alarm.

“Disregard it’s actually the mayor,” Ramirez said.

“Thank you for coming in peace.”

The police chief went on to knock Mayor Alvaro Arreola’s hairstyle in the clip.

“Somebody do something with the mayor’s hair,” Ramirez said.

“There’s a kid crying over there. It’s horrible.”

Police also posted a press release to Facebook alongside some silly videos of the “UFO” soaring over town.

“The saucer-shaped object seemed to be flying over areas of Del Rio erratically looking for a place to land,” the notice says.

“The resulting footage has since gone viral on social media, sparking intense speculation.”

It also includes what’s likely a fake quote from Giorgio Tsoukalos, a frequent contributor to the History Channel show Ancient Aliens.

Screenshots of his appearances on the program were turned into viral memes.

“The footage captured over Del Rio is certainly remarkable,” allegedly said.

“We are in the early stages of analysis, and it is too soon to definitively identify the object.

“Further investigation is warranted.”

Many commenters appreciated the skit.

“That is so funny,” one Facebook user said.

“The mayor is so down to earth to participate.

“Love this police department, so much fun.”

But others didn’t believe the skit was a good use of law enforcement resources.

“Too much time on their hands,” another commenter said.
