FOOTAGE has been released showing the attack that killed Johnathan Lewis as eight of the involved face murder charges.
The 17-year-old was killed by a violent group of students in an attack after standing up for a friend who had allegedly been robbed by the group.
A group of about 15 youths was filmed beating Lewis on November 1, 2023; he succumbed to his injuries after days in the hospital on November 7.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by Lewis’ family, he had been standing up for a smaller friend who had been robbed and thrown in a trash can before the attack.
Eight of the involved teens are facing murder charges; all are between the ages of 13 and 17.
Those charged that are older than 16 years will automatically be processed as an adult, for those who are younger, a judge can still refer them to adult legal processing.

Lewis was meant to go live with his father in Texas in the coming months.
His father described the teen as a “champion of love,” before explaining what had happened.
“One of his smaller friends had something stolen by this group of fifteen.
“They threw the small boy in the trash can. Our son confronted them and he was attacked. Violence begets more violence and these children don’t even know what they’re doing half the time,” said the father.
Despite the devastation caused by the group of fifteen, Lewis’ dad still has a message of peace for those involved in the violence.
“I hope there’s a way that can find forgiveness in their heart and find a way to be able to come to terms with what they’ve done,” he said.
