DNC's Botched Israel Vote Proves Democrat Party Has the Moral Backbone of a Chocolate Eclair

For weeks, some in the left-leaning media have been hyping a looming showdown over Israel at the Democrat National Committee’s summer meeting being held this week in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There were two dueling resolutions going head-to-head; one involved a two-state solution and arms sales, while the other called for an arms embargo and suspension of military aid.

This was it! The big moment when Democrats were finally going to decide if they side with the antisemites rampaging across college campuses—who, let’s face it, are the face of today’s Democrat Party—or with those who at least pay lip service to continuing with arms sales to Israel with the goal of eventually arriving at a two-state solution.

Here’s how one outlet framed the fight:

But the twin Gaza resolutions have substantial differences. One urges a ceasefire and a return of hostages held by Hamas; the other asks the party to commit to “suspension of military aid to Israel” and its elected leaders to support establishing a Palestinian state.

That resolution would be a “gift to Republicans” and would “embolden Israel’s adversaries,” Democratic Majority for Israel president Brian Romick told Semafor.

Well, Tuesday was vote day, and they totally botched it. It’s kind of insane what happened.

First, the DNC resolutions committee rejected the measure calling to suspend arms sales to Israel. Okay, so that might indicate that enough party members still support Israel, meaning the second resolution had a good chance of being approved. We’ll never know, however, because DNC Chairman Ken Martin, the author of the pro-Israel resolution, proceeded to pull it from consideration, saying the party needs to “keep working through” the issue.
