PRESIDENT Donald Trump’s cabinet will meet for the first time today and even his new best pal Elon Musk will have a seat at the table.

The president’s top team consists of former senators like Marco Rubio but also figures from the world of business and television.

Senators have worked at breakneck speed to confirm Trump’s cabinet picks – with only a handful of votes remaining.

Eighteen cabinet picks have been confirmed by the Senate and they will gather at the White House for their first meeting.

Tesla mogul Elon Musk, who spearheads Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, will also attend the meeting – even though he’s not officially part of the cabinet.

Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is also part of the cabinet despite not needing a confirmation vote in the Senate.

Wiles, known as the ice maiden, has been hailed for her ruthlessness and is credited for running Trump’s successful election campaign.

Trump’s cabinet doesn’t just feature politicians who have made a career on Capitol Hill.

Former Fox News star Pete Hegseth is Trump’s Defense Secretary – a nominee that raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill.

Hegseth, who needed J.D. Vance to break the tie in his Senate confirmation vote, will lead the department at a time of great geopolitical upheaval.

Former presidential rival Doug Burgum, ex-Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, and former Democrat now Republican Tulsi Gabbard also have a seat at the table.

But, only one of Trump’s nominees was confirmed unanimously.

MARCO RUBIO

Rubio, who served as Senator of Florida, holds the record for being the only Trump pick to be voted unanimously.

He sailed through the confirmation process, with a 99–0 vote margin.

And, his attributes were hailed by both Democrats and Republicans.

Democratic Senator John Fetterman, of Pennsylvania, described Rubio as a “solid choice.”

Chuck Schumer, the Minority Leader in the Senate, described Rubio as “qualified and experienced.”

Rubio, who served in the Senate for 14 years, is known for his hawkish stance toward America’s adversaries, including China and Iran.

And he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Saudi Arabia as American and Russian officials convened there.

Rubio, who won re-election to the Senate in 2022, is a former rival of Trump’s.

He and the president locked horns during the primaries ahead of the 2016 election.

Trump famously labeled Rubio “Little Marco,” while Rubio described Trump as a “con artist.”

However, their relationship has transformed.

Former national security adviser John Bolton revealed Trump and Rubio had a “good personal relationship,” per USA Today.

And Marc Short, Mike Pence’s ex-chief of staff, said Rubio was “eager” to work with the first Trump administration.

While ex-South Dakota Governor and gun-wielding Republican Kristi Noem will lead the Department of Homeland Security.

Noem attracted controversy when she was criticized over killing her dog.

She wrote about killing Cricket, who was 14 months old at the time, in her book No Going Back.

Noem received considerable backlash but defended her decision.

“I can understand why some people are upset about a 20-year-old story of Cricket, one of the working dogs at our ranch, in my upcoming book — No Going Back,” she wrote on X.

“The book is filled with many honest stories of my life, good and bad days, challenges, painful decisions, and lessons learned.”

Not all of Trump’s cabinet picks have the political backstory that Rubio has.

Trump’s cabinet picks confirmed by the Senate

DONALD Trump’s cabinet consists of former lawmakers on Capitol Hill, ex-governors, as well as personalities from the world of television and business.

  • Marco Rubio: Secretary of State
  • Howard Lutnick: Commerce Secretary
  • Brooke Rollins: Agriculture Secretary
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr: Health and Human Services Secretary
  • Pam Bondi: Attorney General
  • Doug Collins: Veteran Affairs
  • Eric Turner: Housing and Urban Development Secretary
  • Chris Wright: Energy Secretary
  • Doug Burgum: Interior Secretary
  • Lee Zeldin: Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency
  • Scott Bessent: Secretary of the Treasury.
  • Pam Bondi: Attorney General
  • Sean Duffy: Transportation Secretary
  • Pete Hegseth: Defense Secretary
  • Kristi Noem:  Secretary of Homeland Security
  • Tulsi Gabbard: Director of National Intelligence
  • John Ratcliffe: Director of the Central Intelligence Agency

RFK JR

Robert F. Kennedy Jr, a controversial figure because of his views on vaccine safety, chronic disease issues, and processed foods, is Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary.

He endorsed Trump to be president in August 2024 and the pair united over the vision to make America healthy again.

Kennedy was grilled during his confirmation hearing by senior Democrats who felt he was unfit to serve.

But, the Senate voted 52 to 48 to confirm his appointment. Only GOP grandee Mitch McConnell voted against.

Kennedy’s department will be responsible for determining the safety of vaccines and prescription drugs, and will work with 80,000 staffers to regulate the medical industry.

TULSI GABBARD

RFK Jr. was not the only Trump cabinet nominee McConnell voted against.

He did not back Tulsi Gabbard to be the president’s Director of National Intelligence.

Gabbard, who has served in warzones, endorsed Joe Biden to be president in 2020. She is a former Democratic congresswoman.

But, after leaving the political arena, she railed against Biden’s foreign policy – claiming the US was pushed closer to a global conflict.

She endorsed Trump, citing his record that he didn’t start a war during his first term in office.

Gabbard was confirmed as DNI despite an intense grilling on her views on Russia and Syria.

In 2017, she met the now-deposed tyrant Bashar Al Assad and has been accused of cozying up to Russia.

TV PERSONALITIES

Hegseth, Trump’s defense secretary pick, has swapped the microphone for the Pentagon.

But his selection resulted in a 50-50 split in the Senate, meaning Vance had to go to the Capitol to break the tie.

Hegseth had to defend himself against numerous allegations relating to his conduct in previous positions.

Sean Duffy, a former reality TV star, has seen his first weeks as Transportation Secretary dominated by aviation disasters.

A crash involving an American Airlines jet and Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport saw 67 people killed.

All 64 people on board the passenger plane died as the jet plunged into the icy Potomac River.

Seven people were killed in Pennsylvania after a medical jet crashed seconds after takeoff, and 10 people perished when a plane went missing off the coast of Alaska.

Duffy is a former Wisconsin congressman but he first entered the public eye in 1997 on the show The Real World.

He also appeared in the program’s spin-off Road Rules: All Stars.

OTHER POSITIONS

Christopher Wright will be Secretary of Energy under Trump, while the former chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald Howard Lutnick will head the Commerce Department.

One of the tasks on Lutnick’s in-tray could revolve around the future of the US Postal Service.

Trump has suggested merging the agency, which has experienced significant financial losses.

Lutnick is also a backer of Trump’s tariffs. Tariffs were imposed on Chinese imports days after the president was sworn in.

Trump threatened to clobber Canada and Mexico with tariffs, but for now, these have not come into force.

Pam Bondi is Trump’s attorney general and Eric Turner is responsible for leading the Housing and Urban Development department.

Meanwhile, Douglas Collins’ brief revolves around veteran affairs.

Senators only have to confirm Trump’s pick for Education Secretary, Linda McMahon.

McMahon is the wife of former WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

Trump’s pick to be the Ambassador to the United Nations Elise Stefanik has not yet been confirmed.

Fetterman revealed he would be backing Stefanik to assume the role.
