Erika Kirk has opened up for the first time since the tragic death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, sharing the poignant moment when their young daughter inquired about visiting her father in heaven.

Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist, was fatally shot on September 10 during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. He was just 31 years old at the time of his untimely passing.

In Erika’s first interview since the devastating event, which is scheduled to air on Fox News on Wednesday night, she gives an emotional glimpse into the questions her three-year-old daughter has been grappling with. A preview clip of the interview captures the heart-wrenching reality the family faces as they cope with their loss.

Speaking with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Erika shared that she has explained to her children that their father is on a “work trip with Jesus.” This comforting narrative helps her children process the absence of their beloved father.

In a touching effort to maintain a connection with Charlie, Erika has encouraged her children to look up to the sky and talk to him whenever they find themselves missing him.

When she told her daughter that Charlie was in heaven, she responded, ‘Do you think I could go sometime?’

‘Baby, we will all go one day. We will all go one day,’ Erika told her child.

The couple married in 2021 and had two children together, a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son. The couple have not revealed their children’s names to the world.

After Charlie’s death, Erika said in a public address to the nation that when she returned home, her daughter ran into her arms and confessed that she missed her father.

‘What do you tell a 3-year-old? She’s three. I said, “Baby, Daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus so he can afford your blueberry budget,”‘ Erika said in the address.

Charlie was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously on October 14 by President Trump.

Erika accepted the award on what would’ve been her husband’s 32nd birthday. In her speech, she read a birthday message that her daughter had written to Charlie.

‘Happy birthday daddy. I want to give you a stuffed animal. I want you to eat a cupcake with ice cream. And I want you to go have a birthday surprise. I love you,’ the message read.

Erika shared a heartbreaking video of her daughter saying Charlie’s name in the car in a video on Instagram.

As the two rode past a sign with Charlie on it, their daughter joyfully yelled, ‘I see Daddy! Charlie Kirk!’

Erika captioned the video: ‘Her…saying your name, as she witnesses all you’ve built and continue to build, proves that love never dies, just changes form. It breathes through our children. This is her legacy also.’

‘And as she grows up and continues to say your name, I’ll be reminding her that each time Heaven leans in to listen,’ she went on.

Another preview of Erika’s pre-taped Fox interview revealed her thoughts on Jimmy Kimmel after his show was pulled off the air for his comments about her husband’s assassination.

When asked what her message was to Kimmel, Erika revealed that Sinclair, the broadcast group that airs ABC programming, had asked her after the late-night host’s controversial monologue what they could do to ‘make it right.’

‘They asked, “Do you want Jimmy to give you an apology? Do you want to be on his show? How can we make it right?”‘ she told Watters.

Erika said that if Sinclair or Kimmel wants to apologize, they’re welcome to, but ‘if that’s not in your heart, don’t do it.’

Kimmel’s divisive monologue referred to the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, 22, who was arrested for aggravated murder in connection with Charlie Kirk’s death.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was put back on the air a week after it was suspended, and Kimmel clarified that his previous comments weren’t intended to make light of a murder.

‘That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make, but I understand that to some it felt ill-timed or unclear or maybe both,’ Kimmel said in his opening monologue.

Erika’s full interview on Fox is set to air during Jesse Watters Primetime slot at 8 pm EST.

She’s also set to receive the network’s inaugural Charlie Kirk Legacy Award at the Patriot Awards on Thursday.
