Leaked text messages published by Project Veritas have sparked a fresh controversy over alleged political blackmail targeting conservative commentator Candace Owens.
Project Veritas has released messages allegedly involving Mary Barr Daly, the daughter of former Attorney General William Barr and a former high-ranking official in the Department of Justice. The messages purportedly reveal efforts to tarnish Candace Owens’ reputation, with mentions of a separate operation involving a minor.
As reported by the International Business Times, the leaked texts quickly went viral, sparking discussions about their legitimacy. In the screenshots publicized by Project Veritas, Daly appears to discuss strategies to act decisively against Owens. One line highlighted by the organization states, “We need to blackmail her faster,” and another allegedly refers to Owens as “the harder one,” suggesting a plan to “destroy her reputation before she gets to us.”
Project Veritas reports that Daly’s representatives have refuted the authenticity of the texts, stating they are fabricated. However, the group points out that none of the individuals named have pursued legal action as threatened.
The controversial messages also allude to a plot involving an underage girl, intended to target an unidentified individual. This revelation prompted an immediate outcry on social media. According to IBTimes, one user likened the tactic of using a minor as leverage to “literally EPSTEIN behavior,” while others speculated about the identity of the target and the origins of the minor.
Film producer and commentator Lauren Witzke supported Project Veritas’ claims in a widely circulated X post. Witzke asserted that Project Veritas had uncovered attempts by “AG Bill Barr’s daughter to set up and blackmail Candace Owens while she was a senior DOJ official,” adding that Daly also allegedly planned to use an underage girl to blackmail another individual.
Project Veritas framed the matter in broader terms, asserting that Owens “has been a target of governments for years.” In its own X post promoting the screenshots, the group highlighted the alleged Daly line, saying, “We need to blackmail her (Candace) faster” and identifying Daly as a “former senior DOJ official, daughter of former AG Bill Barr.”
Online reaction to the leak has been sharply divided. Some users cited in the IBTimes report argued the texts reveal a “government willing to engage in covert operations against citizens,” with one commenter calling it “insane that they weren’t arrested for conspiring against American citizens.”
