An eyewitness provided a detailed account of the boat mishap that resulted in the untimely demise of Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope. As per the witness, the boat driver failed to spot an approaching vessel in time, culminating in a tragic collision on Anam River in Anambra state on the fateful day of Wednesday, April 10. This heartbreaking incident claimed the lives of Junior Pope, the sound technician, and the makeup artist, as confirmed by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

The eyewitness went on to depict the boat as cramped and lacking adequate space, hinting at lapses in safety precautions. None of the occupants were equipped with life jackets, and there were no divers on standby to manage emergencies. The absence of divers, life-saving gear such as life jackets, and flotation aids like Jerry cans has been identified as pivotal factors that led to the tragedy.
The distressing turn of events has prompted extensive discussions and reactions on various online platforms. Some individuals online have even suggested a spiritual dimension to the incident, questioning the mysterious circumstances that culminated in the fatal accident. Moreover, the incident has resulted in a temporary halt to movie shootings in riverine locations and a decision by Nollywood actors to boycott actress and producer Adamma Luke as a gesture of respect for the deceased.
