NEW York Comic Con fans have paid eye-watering sums this weekend to get their hands on art, merchandise, and collector’s items from their favorite franchises.
Vincent Zurzolo, president of Metropolis Collectibles, is no stranger to dealing with huge amounts of money as he runs the world’s largest dealership for vintage comics.
His booth at New York Comic Con features a massive collection – from super rare comic books to a jewel from the Doctor Strange series that is worth a staggering $1.2million.
“It’s a super exciting show,” he told The U.S. Sun on Friday.
“We’ve got millions of dollars worth of comic books and something really special for you.
“Here we have Doctor Strange’s Book of Magic and inside it, we have a very rare, one-of-one Eye of Agamotto – Doctor Strange’s Time Stone from the Infinity gauntlet.”
Zurzolo said that the pendant featured a 19-karat African emerald surrounded by a patina brass base with an 18-karat gold front casing.
“We’re branching out into something completely different for us,” he said of the piece.
“We were approached by someone who recently purchased a very cool, one-of-a-kid Eye of Agamotto, a fully licensed by Marvel weapon prop jewel.”
Metropolis Comics and Collectibles collaborated with East Continental Gems, official Marvel licensors, to showcase the gem at the convention.
“It is just astonishing,” he said.
“It’s priced at $1.2million and we have it on sale today.”
While speaking with The U.S. Sun, Zurzolo paused the interview to make a sale with an eager collector who nabbed an original copy of Detective Comics #27, which is known for debuting the superhero Batman.

Zurzolo marked the comic with a sticky note that read “SOLD” in a bold, black marker.
The price tag for the piece was a mind-blowing $750,000.
Written by famed writer and artist Bob Kane, the comic was published in 1939 and is often regarded as one of the most valuable comic books of all time.
It is known to be very rare to find a copy in mint condition.
“[A buyer] writes out a check to me,” Zurzolo said, explaining the process of buying an item at such a big price.
“The check obviously has to clear.
“For an item this expensive, we’ll wire the money into our accounts.
“We buy and sell from the public. We also get items on consignment.
“[The Eye of Agamotto] is a consignment piece right now,” he explained, meaning that it’s owned by someone else but being sold by Zurzolo.
Zurzolo’s booth featured a variety of pricy comic books, with another priced at a whopping $400,000.
The four-day New York Comic Con event is held annually at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
Aside from the impressive merchandise, celebrity guests, movie panels, the famed artist’s alley, and countless cosplayers are the other main highlights of the event.
