Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) said she believes President Trump is fixing a lack of government transparency by releasing the files related to former President Kennedy’s assassination.

“This was something, as you just said, that the president had spoken about on the campaign trail, and quite frankly, for decades, there has really been no good reason as to why the remaining files have not been released,” Cammack said Thursday on NewsNation’s “The Hill.”

“It’s no secret that Americans across the country have a distrust” she continued. “They certainly see a lack of accountability and transparency within government, and so I think the president really is taking a step to rectify that lack of transparency.”

Earlier Thursday, Trump signed an executive order directing the release of federal documents related to three assassinations: the former president, former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

The director of national intelligence and the attorney general will present a plan within 15 days for the “full and complete release” of records related to the former president’s assassination.

Trump stated on the campaign trail that he would release the documents for the three notable deaths because it is of public interest.

In 2022, the National Archives released nearly 13,000 new files related to JFK’s assassination, but both Trump and former President Biden issued extensions on the remaining documents.

Cammack said Thursday that the contents of the records are something that’s been “lingering” in American society for years and Trump’s actions can help clear up questions about the deaths.

“I would say, let’s take it a step further. Let’s start releasing the Epstein list,” she said. “That is something that I know every American is very interested in.”

NewsNation’s Blake Burman questioned if the Florida Republican thought Trump would do that. Trump and the late Jeffrey Epstein had a relationship many years before the president ran for public office.

“He’s talked about it on the trail,” Cammack replied. “I would not be surprised one bit if he released the Epstein files.”
