BILLIONAIRE Bill Gates never stepped foot on his luxury hydrogen-powered superyacht – despite it costing £500m, a new report has claimed.

The Microsoft co-founder, 69, is now said to be looking to sell the 390ft vessel dubbed “Breakthrough” only a year after it first launched.

Dutch shipbuilders Feadship first built the sleek yacht in 2021 with rumours quickly swirling that it was commissioned by Gates.

Breakthrough’s true owner has never been officially confirmed but several reports have claimed it was set to form part of the world’s 13th richest person’s pricey collection.

But Gates – who is reportedly worth a whopping £81 billion – hasn’t appeared to take a liking to the superyacht.

He is now preparing to sell the luxurious vessel to a former NHL goalie, according to a report from Luxury Launches.

Canadian billionaire and CEO of Green For Life Environmental Patrick Dovigi has been rumoured about buying the yacht, the outlet added.

Dovigi is best known for playing for the Edmonton Oilers as an 18-year-old after he was drafted as a second round pick in 1997.

After retiring from the NHL, the athlete became the face of a waste management firm which is now valued at over £14 billion.

Dovigi is also worth over £760 million himself and is regarded as one of Canada’s richest 100 people.

He has a track record of purchasing luxury sea vessels after becoming the owner of AHPO in 2023.

He snapped up the 377ft, six-deck superyacht from billionaire Michael Lee-Chin for an incredible £276 million.

The AHPO has since been sold with Dovigi now on the look out for his next luxury adventure, according to Luxury Launches.

It is unclear how much the CEO will have to pay if he wants to board Gate’s Breakthrough however.

The immense superyacht was initially listed for sale soon after its launch in May 2024 for just over £457 million.

There are several reasons for the gargantuan price tag with yacht experts Edmiston once describing it as “the most extraordinary yacht ever built”.

Boasting five decks above the waterline and another two below, the Breakthrough is teeming with luxury.

The owners’ deck sits above the bridge and is styled like a pristine apartment, with two bedrooms, twin bathrooms and dressing rooms to enjoy.

There is also a gym, pantry, two offices with a fireplace each and a huge living room.

A unique and completely private vertical corridor also extends to the lower deck.

To get between the vast floors onboard, holidaymakers can either use the spacious staircase which is lined with bookshelves or the owners’ elevator.

Elsewhere, a bar and coffee area as well as a huge library and sports court can be found on the vessel.

Like many expensive modern day superyachts, it also has a sleek infinity pool and an accessible helipad.

And with a top speed of 17 knots (19.5 mph) it can cross the Atlantic in a flash.

It comes after a luxury superyacht designed to look like a floating New York City opulent hotel was put on the market for an eye-watering £142 million.

This five-star inspired Feadship One vessel, with its lavish additions, is a far cry from your average boat.

Meanwhile, pictures of another mega-yacht show the “ultra-luxurious” cabins and onboard spa and gym.

It also boasts a huge deck for guests to bask on sunbeds.

A swimming pool with a bar behind it adds to the opulence, with separate massive dining areas.
