Wednesday proved to be a challenging day for Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California and a prominent Democratic hopeful for the 2028 presidential race. Newsom had been in Davos for several days, mingling with influential figures like Alex Soros, aiming to secure financial backing from the world’s elite to bolster his White House ambitions.
While Newsom was enjoying his role at Davos amidst the parties and media buzz, his enthusiasm was short-lived with the arrival of Team Trump. The atmosphere shifted dramatically for Newsom when former President Trump and his Cabinet members appeared in the picturesque Swiss ski resort.
The situation took a turn when Newsom was questioned about his thoughts on international concerns regarding Trump’s Greenland proposals. Rather than providing a straightforward answer, Newsom launched into a lengthy and somewhat disjointed monologue, touching on topics like courage, Nobel prizes, and even T-Rexes. During this exchange, he also took a jab at U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, labeling him as “smug.”
It all started when Newsom was asked if he had any advice for those in the international community who had concerns over Trump’s plans for Greenland. This led to non-response from Newsom, who, while channeling his inner Kamala Harris, went, on an extended ramble about backbones, Nobel prizes, and T-Rexes. Oh, and he also called U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent “smug.”
