A TWO-year-old girl has been found stuffed inside a suitcase in a bus luggage compartment.
The bus driver noticed a bag moving during a stop in Kaiwaka, New Zealand after a passenger requested access to the area.
When the driver opened the bag, they found the girl who was said to be “very hot, but otherwise appeared physically unharmed”, according to Detective Chief Simon Harrison.
The tot was rushed to hospital where she received an extensive medical assessment.
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with ill-treatment or neglect of a child.
Cops said other charges have not been ruled out and children’s services have been notified.
The woman appeared at North Shore District Court on Monday.
Court documents, seen by local news outlet Stuff, allege she travelled from Whangarei in the northern region of New Zealand to Auckland by bus and put the child in the luggage compartment.
The defendant has been remanded before entering a plea and will return to court tomorrow.
Bus operator, Entrada Travel Group, told Sky News: “Police were called to respond and are investigating the matter. No one was harmed during the incident, and the service resumed.”
Children up to two years old can travel for free on the InterCity bus service, while children over the age of three require a ticket.
