OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT has suffered a worldwide outage, causing widespread disruption.
The company said there are “elevated error rates and latency” that users have been experiencing on various AI platforms.
The company stated that they are currently looking into the issue. A majority of complaints from India, around 88 percent, were related to the chatbot failing to respond to inquiries. About 8 percent of the reports involved problems with the mobile app, while 3 percent of users faced issues connected to APIs.
Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, shows issues with OpenAI’s ChatGPT started around 4am ET.
‘We are observing elevated error rates and latency across ChatGPT and the API,’ OpenAI shared on its sit.
‘Our engineers have identified the root cause and are working as fast as possible to fix the issue.’
The company said at 10:54am ET that ‘full recovery across all listed services may take another few hours.’
OpenAI’s website shows 14 affected components with its APIs, 21 for ChatGPT and four with Sora.
The APIs cover various features such as chat, images, files, audio, realtime, and responses. Currently, the services provided by ChatGPT including iOS, Android, WhatsApp, web, Dalle-E, and desktop are experiencing outages.
The AI has gained popularity in the workforce, helping employees draft the perfect email, research information, and provide customer support.
